We had 3 bets on Saturday evening at Wolves.
First up was an information bet, I had heard that we could expect a dramatic improvement from GOING GREY 1pt ew @ 11/1. He had been well beaten in a maiden first time out and was said to have learnt an awful lot for that experience. Unfortunately we found 1 too good on the night in the shape of the short priced favourite Delft. Still a good run and a small profit.
Half an hour later we backed JUSTONEFORTHEROAD 1pt ew @ 14/1 who has been running in better races and winning them than this. He did disappoint on his only AW run so far but I took it on trust that he would act on the surface and he was 3lb lower than when he won the Hunt Cup at Thirsk back in the summer. I marked him down as one to watch that day and still feel there are more good races in him given the right conditions. He did run ok and finished in 6th, I do think he acted on the surface, it’s just not as well as he does the turf? No real harm done though with a loss of 2pts.
I don’t like criticising jockeys and tend not to do it too much, but for the life of me I cannot see what Martin Lane was thinking about on our last bet STYLISTICKHILL 3pts win@3/1 BOG, he looks an improver on the AW and quite progressive. He was unlucky last time out when finishing 3rd and I feel he was again Saturday Night…. He was extremely Well drawn in box 2 so nice and easy to get a hardy position ( crucial at Wolverhapmton ) and M.Lane manages to find himself in the back 2 or 3!! He just sat there and suffered and he was never going to be able to get himself out of it…. Finally he came cruising through and got the daylight in the final furlong to fly home when it’s all over to be beaten less than 2 lengths after been maybe 7 down a furlong and a half out, definite winner beaten I feel.
So not the greatest of nights but i’m still over the moon with the progress we have made and we are certain to end the year in a nioce profit. Anyone wanting to be part of it? Please do yourself a favour and subscribe by the end of the year as the prices will revert back to normal on the 1st Jan 2012.
