Well another poor day today with 3 bets and only a 2nd place to show for them.
First up we had Silaah ( 2pts ew @ 5/1) who has been progressing really nicely for Dandy Nicholls, He ran a cracker at Meydan last week and looked a good bet today if running to a similar level. Silaah broke ok and was in the front rank early, he pulled too hard though and wouldn’t really settle as well as we would like.
He was bang there in the straight but just couldn’t go on and finshed 6th, Maybe he used up too much energy too early? But a 4pt loss on the bet.
Next up was a confident bet on Where’s Reilly ( 4pts win @ 9/4 B.O.G returned 5/2) Who has become dangerously well handicapped. I thought that this 6f would suit even though he has done his winning here over 5f, he broke ok and there was plenty of pace on but he found himself badly outpaced with around 3f to run. He finally got going late and flew through to beat everything bar the winner who had flown by the time and never really looked like winning. A difficult run to weigh up? And disappointed he couldn’t get it done off this mark.
We then had all our days hopes pinned on the smallest bet of the day Tuxedo (1pt ew @ 15/2 B.O.G returned 8/1) He was badly drawn today but I thought that this might not be as bigger deal as it might have been for a horse that would need to be handy? He is usually held up and I thought that he may be able to sit in behind and get the gaps to nab them late on!! He dwelt and was ridden to get in touch with the pack and was very wide. He had a hopeless task from there on in and when Catlin pressed the button He just went backwards. The less said about the run the better to be honest.
So a bad day for us today with 10pts lost, we do not panic in these situations though as we know that it’s only money lent. February is turning out to be a difficult month and we are just under 8pts down so far this month after a great January where we made 40pts. I am optimistic that we can claw back into profit however as we have a couple of nice bets this weekend earmarked.
